About Us
Easter 2008Salem United Methodist Church celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2007. God has blessed the church in the past few years sending us a wave of growth, new life and activity.

God has given the church many new members via newcomers to the area and births. The church has expanded to meet its growing needs with our beautiful Christian Life Center, which was completed last fall. The project included remodeling the kitchen that was greatly needed for the many events and suppers of our active calendar.

Salem offers many ways for people to get involved, get to know one another and do good works. The church has strong men and women's groups, and the youth group is being reinvigorated. The church is remodeling the basement to be youth hangout for fun and fellowship. Salem's senior group is always planning an adventure locally or in the region. Salem's prayer group meets weekly. Being a member of the choir is yet another way to serve the church.

Please join us for Sunday school at 9:45 a.m. with worship service following at 11 a.m. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us. We hope that you enjoy visiting our website and can't wait to see you in church!

Wendy MarionSalem Choir
The Salem Choir members enjoy their performances during the regular worship service, but also like to share their musical talents outside the church. Recently they went Christmas caroling and sang at RidgeCrest Retirement Center. They perform an Easter and Christmas cantata each year.

"We are always learning new music and mastering old favorites, so any given Sunday could be a treat," said Wendy Marion, music director. Wendy studied performance music through private training for 12 years and has been a professional musician for 15 years. She plays the piano, keyboard and organ. She has been Salem's choir director for 12 years.

The 18-member choir practices every Wednesday night at 6:45 to 7:30 p.m. at the church. They are always seeking new members. "The only requirement we have is that you are able to make a joyful noise," Wendy said. "We like new members because they always invite new talent and ideas to our group. We also welcome solo acts, duets, etc. Basically, if you feel the need to perform it, then I'll help you master it and play it for you! I'd love to see additional musicians join us on Sunday mornings - if not full-time, then whenever possible."

The Salem United Methodist Youth Group is being reorganized by a dedicated committee who hope to provide an environment for local youth to enjoy fellowship and fun in a non-threatening, Christian surrounding.

Youth Leader Chris Robertson is excited about the church renovating the basement for a youth hangout, which some youth have already nicknamed, "The Cave."

The youth group recently enjoyed a Super Bowl party attended by about 35 people and a touch football game is being planned for March 22. "W
e plan to do a lot in 2009 especially after completion of basement," Robertson said. "Our plans include football, basketball, hockey, baseball, movies, bowling, eating and more. We also plan to have a youth Sunday and several fund raisers."

The group was started in 1992 and has been going strong ever since. They meet the third Wednesday of the month and go to different restaurants, sometimes for breakfast, other times for lunch. About 20 members attend regularly.

"We are the retired members of the church," said Pat Busick, leader. "Anyone is welcome to join, retired or not. The group has fun and fellowship with each other. Sometimes we visit attractions like Billy Graham Library, The Indian Mounds, Frasco's, Shatley Springs, Bluff Lodge and Mayberry Mill."
